How saving the environment can save you money.

Many of the people who seem to care so little about the environment in their daily actions of assault against it are at the same time very shrewdly business minded. I recently convinced one such person to start making some lifestyle changes to help our planet heal by simply pointing out several ways to save money. You too can help the environment and your pocketbooks, by changing small things that add up to big bucks.

For instance, unplug the mobile device chargers that probably stay plugged into your outlets constantly. Most of these chargers are draining current, and subsequently raising your electric bill and eating up more electricity and therefore burning more fossil fuels which causes carbon emission pollution (you get the point) - all while you aren't even charging your device!

This is just the begining. There are many ways you can save money by helping to save the planet from the effects of carbon-related climate change and chemical pollution of our water and air. If you have such an idea, please add it to this forum. I will share ideas as they come up as well, and together we can make the greenest money we've ever seen!

Rethinking Public Transportation

If anyone is thinking about going to college in the Philadelphia area, they just started a new car sharing program called Philly Car Share. It really nice because it costs less then renting a car and you can use it whenever you need it. (plus the fee is less if you drive their hybrid!)

End junk credit mailings...

For those wishing (as I have) to never receive another pre-screened, pre-approved, pre-junk mailing from a credit company again, here are two resources that can help.

Call 1-888-5-OPTOUT. This is an automated system that allows you to opt out of being eligible for pre-screening (meaning that the credit companies won't even know you are able to have credit) by all of the credit reporting bureaus (Experian, etc.). Select option 2, and then option 2 again, and your junk mail should get alot lighter. Again, saving money by helping to save the environment (which is why I'm putting this under the Money forum as well!).

Online - go to www.optoutprescreen.com

This is very similar to the phone option, but possibly quicker, and it saves you a phone call. I've done this - it works. I used to receive up to 5 offers a day from credit companies. Now, since I've done this, I haven't received a SINGLE offer! No joke.

Simply put - if you want a credit card, apply for one (either online or by calling the company you wish to deal with). BUT - if you are tired of throwiing away countless mailings and having to shred them because they contain personal information - daily - just opt-out!
