Generation 'Why Save?'

Do you ever wonder what people think of our generation? I recently read an article entitled “Money Firms Slow to Target Gen Y Demographic” by Lisa Scherzer from SmartMoney.com, which highlighted what financial institutions see in our generation.

The article says that, as a whole, our generation has too much debt for its own good. Due to this debt – often college loans – Gen Y is not saving for the future.

I think it’s true that our generation is dealing with large amounts of debt mainly because of high college costs. Debt from college loans is not necessarily a bad thing. What concerns me is that we, as a generation, are not putting a lot of emphasis on saving.

What do you think? Is saving a priority for you? Are you worried about the debt you’ll have as an adult? Is our generation heading towards a lifestyle overcome with debt with no concern for saving?
