Saving Advice from a Cartoon

I recently saw an interesting cartoon in the newspaper about saving money. There was a baby sitting in the office of a financial planner. The financial planner was holding folders labeled “college,” “retirement,” and “health care,” while informing the baby that, “According to the numbers, you should have started saving before you were born.”

Isn’t that reassuring.

Now, that cartoon may have been exaggerating. I’m sure the cartoonist took the worse case scenario in order to make a point. The point is, saving is important. You may not have many expenses now, but just wait, bills will come.

Let’s face it. College is not going to get cheaper and one day you just might decide to retire. Are you going wallow in the doomsday message of the cartoon or take the matter into your own hands by saving a little today for tomorrow?

For me the easiest way to save is to just do it. I don’t sit there and think about what else I could be doing with that money. I just put it aside and know that it will be used sometime later. Saving is really future spending.

How do you feel about the message in the cartoon?
